James Sikking, 'Hill Street Blues' and 'Doogie Howser, M.D.' Star, Dies at 90

James Sikking, a veteran actor known for his roles as Lieutenant Howard Hunter on the TV show Hill Street Blues and Dr. David Howser on the TV show Doogie Howser, M.D., has died at the age of 90.

Sikking was born on March 5, 1934, in Los Angeles, California. He began his acting career in the early 1960s, appearing in small roles in films and television shows. He landed his breakout role in 1981, when he was cast as Lieutenant Howard Hunter on Hill Street Blues. The show was a critical and commercial success, and Sikking's performance earned him an Emmy Award nomination.

After Hill Street Blues ended in 1987, Sikking continued to appear in a variety of roles on television and in films. In 1989, he began playing Dr. David Howser on Doogie Howser, M.D. The show was a hit, and Sikking's performance earned him another Emmy Award nomination.

Sikking continued to act until his death. He appeared in his final role in the 2020 film The Last Shift.
