WSSU Rams Defeat Ohio Dominican Panthers in Overtime Thriller, 19-13

Winston-Salem State University's football team emerged victorious in an overtime battle against Ohio Dominican University on Saturday, October 15th.

The hard-fought contest ended with a final score of 19-13, marking a significant win for the Rams.

The game commenced with both teams showcasing their offensive prowess, resulting in a high-scoring first half. Ohio Dominican drew first blood with a touchdown in the opening quarter, but WSSU swiftly responded with two touchdowns of their own to take a 14-7 lead at the half.

The second half witnessed a more defensive struggle, with neither team able to find the end zone. The Panthers managed to tie the game with a field goal in the third quarter, setting the stage for a thrilling overtime period.

In overtime, WSSU's defense held strong, forcing Ohio Dominican to settle for a field goal. The Rams then capitalized on their opportunity, with quarterback Khalon Thompson connecting with wide receiver Donovan Green for the game-winning touchdown.

The victory marked the second consecutive win for WSSU, improving their record to 4-3 on the season. Running back Maurice Lewis led the Rams' offense with 109 rushing yards and a touchdown, while linebacker Jaheim Oatis recorded a team-high 10 tackles on the defensive end.

Coach Connell Maynor expressed his pride in his team's performance, stating, "This was a hard-fought win against a tough opponent. Our guys showed a lot of heart and determination, and I'm proud of the way they executed under pressure."

With this win, WSSU remains in contention for a berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs. They will look to continue their winning ways next Saturday when they host Virginia Union University in a key CIAA conference matchup.
